EAP 599

What is it?

EAP 599 stands for Education Abroad Program 599 and is a 1 credit hour UK course in Canvas. It prepares you for your experience abroad and how to make the most of it. Topics include how to surf the cultural waves, career integration, and reflection on your experience.

What else does it do?

It gives you full-time student status for the terms you’re on your program. It’s also required so that you can have access to financial aid and scholarships. While the course itself costs one credit hour according to your residency status, it wipes out other UK tuition and course fees for courses related to your EA program (not including distance learning fees for non-EA courses). For example, when you are enrolled in EAP 599 plus 6 UK credit hours for a summer faculty-directed program, you only pay for 1 credit hour for all 7 credits.

Can you opt out?

If you're an undergrad student, you are required to be in this course when going on a program where you'll be studying, interning, researching, teaching, or doing service abroad during any term. Yes, even summer terms. Graduate students, you have the choice if you want to opt in or out. It may be financially beneficial for you to enroll in EAP 599, so check with your UK Education Abroad Advisor before you decide.

Any student who uses UK financial aid or scholarships to help pay for their program must be enrolled in EAP 599.

Academic Year

You will be enrolled in EAP 599 for both semesters in which you’re abroad, and you will need to complete the course content and assignments on Canvas both semester.

The Education Abroad Office will enroll you in this course. If you do not see the course on Canvas, please contact the Education Abroad office.
In order to Pass EAP, you must complete all course assignments on Canvas.
For each semester you’re abroad, all course requirements need to be completed by the end of the UK term in which you’re abroad (this will most likely be a different date than when your program ends).

Alt. Academic Year

You will be enrolled in EAP 599 for both semesters in which you’re abroad, and you will need to complete the course content and assignments on Canvas both semester.

In order to Pass EAP, you must complete all course assignments on Canvas.
