International Students

Welcome to the University of Kentucky!

We are thrilled to host you, and we hope you're enjoying all the Kentucky things like horses, basketball, and parks!

Thinking about going abroad again? Sounds great to us here at UK Education Abroad! Before we get started though, there are a few things we need you to do before we chat about your opportunities.

  • Set up an appointment with your International Academic Advisor or Visa Advisor.
  • Double check your visa dates.
  • Find out if you have any travel restrictions while attending UK with the visa you currently hold.
  • Update travel signatures on your immigration documents.

For the most part, everything mirrors the same path as any other student enrolled at UK. However, there are some things to keep in mind:

When you apply for a visa for your education abroad country, you may have a different application and different requirements than a U.S. citizen.

You may also want to be strategic in the term you go on an education abroad program. Perhaps you want to go in the winter or summer because those are school breaks and you need to be out of your housing during that time frame.

You may also want to consider the length of time you will be abroad. If your visa does not allow you to be gone an entire semester we can look into short term programs that go abroad during spring break.

One last thing to consider is if you want the abroad fees to be billed to your student account. Not all programs direct bill to your student account, but as long as we know, we can find the right program for you.
