Staying Active Abroad


The "Study Abroad 10" is real, and so is the struggle to stay ahead of it. Whether you're an avid weightlifter, Yogi, or couch potato, there are plenty of ways to incorporate fitness into your time abroad.

  • Everything in Moderation

    Enjoy going out and trying new foods, but try to balance your heavy meals and rich desserts with salads or lighter dishes. Sadly, Nutella, gelato, 

  • Step it Up

    You are going to walk a lot more abroad than you probably do in the U.S. Make sure you are preparing for increased activity while abroad. A 30-45 minute walk from your housing to your classes will probably be the norm. This will for sure keep you active while you're abroad.

  • Stay Active

    We know it's hard to get into the habit of exercise when everything is new and exciting around you. Look on Facebook and other social media sites to see if your host community offers free or discounted exercise classes. If your university or community has a gym, consider joining! You could also use online resources or fitness channels on YouTube. Just follow along!

  • #OptOutside

    Check with site staff about safety first; then find a local green space or park to walk or run around. Look up places to hike in your area and go with friends. Or join a sports team - it might be a great way to meet locals!
