Studying abroad with a disability requires preparation, but it is absolutely possible. Whether you need extended test time, wheelchair access, or mental health accommodations, our team will support you in creating a successful plan.

Steps to Get Started:

  1. Let’s Meet!
    • Schedule a meeting with UK Education Abroad advisors through a First Steps session or by visiting Bradley Hall. If accessibility is an issue, we’ll gladly meet you in a location that works for you.
  2. Discuss Your Goals and Concerns:
    • Share your academic interests and any accommodations you require (e.g., assistive technology, service animals). Transparency helps us find programs that match your needs.
  3. Collaborate with Campus Partners:
    • Visit the Disability Resource Center or Counseling Center to request an official accommodation letter. These offices can assist with:
      • Digital textbooks
      • Note-takers
      • Mobility or sensory accommodations
  4. Explore Programs:
    • Since international accessibility standards vary, flexibility is key. For example, cobblestone streets in Dublin may require a different plan than accessible cities like Sydney. We’ll work with you to find a suitable program.

Key Tips:

  • Early planning is essential; begin at least 6-12 months ahead of departure.
  • Research your destination’s disability resources through organizations like Mobility International USA.
  • Understand legal frameworks—the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) does not apply abroad, so accommodations differ by country.
