Your Academic Approval Form (AAF) that UK faculty will sign to confirm the UK credit you will earn for an education abroad program course. You should complete your Academic Approval Form before you depart for your program. 

Student Responsibilities:

  • Identify courses you want to take abroad
  • Secure syllabus information for your program courses
  • Complete the student and education abroad course information on your AAF BEFORE sharing it with Approving Officials for review 

Academic Advisor Responsibilities:

  • Help you determine what UK credits can be taken abroad for your degree
  • Can provide feedback related to how your equated courses count towards your UK degree

Faculty Approving Official Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing education abroad program courses and determine the UK equivalent course

How-To

Complete the Academic Approval

  1. Download the Academic Approval Form (AAF).
  2. Complete the top section with your personal and program information.
  3. Visit your program’s website to review course offerings during your program term.
  4. Identify courses that align with your major, minor, or UK Core requirements.
    1. Review your UK Degree Audit and discuss with your Academic Advisor to determine what course credits you should seek abroad.
  5. Compare the UK course name and description with the EA courses you are interested in to determine courses that match the UK credits you are hoping to complete abroad. You can reference the UK Course Bulletin for course descriptions and further details.
  6. Complete the second section of the AAF, listing the EA courses you are interested in having reviewed.
  7. Contact the designated faculty approving official (usually the Director of Undergraduate Studies) that matches the credit you are hoping to receive for the course. (Ex: If you are hoping to earn ISC credit, you should email the ISC Approving Official) You can identify the UK department approving official on the UK EA Major Advising Page for that department.
    1. You should share a course description and syllabus with the Approving Official.
    2. You can contact the department contact via email, or can schedule a meeting with them to discuss course options.
  8. Once all courses are equated on your AAF meet with your Academic Advisor to ensure alignment with your degree requirements. They must sign the AAF.
  9. Submit the signed AAF to the Education Abroad office via email (educationabroad@uky.edu) or in hard copy to 315 Bradley Hall.
  10. The Education Abroad office will upload your AAF to your UK EA application.
